Glacier Lament Art Installation Lighting Film

Glacier Lament

Glacier Lament is an art installation about the loss of glaciers. Pantone lists four color cards for glacier blue, yet in real glaciers this blue is variable and dynamic. As glaciers disappear, this unique blue also disappears. The blue tones of glaciers in Alaska were sampled and blended, then held in sixty recycled glass vials suspended above a canvas. Each time a glacier calving event occurred, one vial fell. By the end of the exhibition all sixty vials had fallen, forming a painting on the canvas beneath.

Pikku Vase

Pikku

Pikku is a small vase made from recycled waste glass. Each vessel is mouth blown, shaped by hand, signed and numbered. The rhythm of the glass making process creates unique splashes of color within the glass layers. The collection is inspired by soap bubbles and by the movement of brush strokes in abstract painting. Each vase is 100 mm tall and is available in pink, blue and purple. When light passes through the glass, the shadow of the vessel reflects the inner play of color. Pikku combines sustainable thinking with Scandinavian design philosophy.

Steady Power Wire Art

Steady Power Wire Art is an art installation created for a company anniversary exhibition. Changing lighting and audio narration accompany the wire forms, while shadows of the wires fall on the walls and the ceiling. The work covers 281 square meters and shows how electricity supports ordinary daily life.

Smell the Flower Coffee Equipment

Smell the Flower

Smell the Flower is a set of measuring equipment for pour over coffee, consisting of a scale and a thermometer. The scale is inspired by flower arrangement. Weights shaped as leaves and fruits are placed on a branch, so weighing coffee beans resembles arranging flowers. The thermometer takes the form of a flower, and the petals rotate open as the hot water is measured, with each petal marking ten degrees. Ceramic, copper, aluminum and acrylic are used in the set. The design gives the preparation of pour over coffee a calm and ritual character.

Dress Pottery Furniture Collection

Dress

Dress is a pottery furniture collection that is also shown as an art installation. The collection presents hanging cloth in porcelain, forming a momentary space that appears to defy gravity. Glass cloth is soaked in clay slurry and fired in layers at 1150 degrees Celsius for one day, which adds strength while keeping the material light. Sand supports the shape during firing. Chairs, tables and lighting fixtures have been developed in the collection. The porcelain also transmits light, so the pieces suit use as lamps.

CityWood Artwork

CityWood

CityWood is a wooden map artwork that presents a city as a three dimensional object. City streets, water and landscape are represented by separate wooden layers, and the layers create depth. Each layer of fine quality plywood is cut with laser technology, polished for a smooth surface and assembled by hand. The layers are set in a wooden frame that measures 450 mm in width, 450 mm in height and 30 mm in depth. The artwork can hang on a wall or stand on a desk. The natural grain of the wood makes each map different.

Stalker Chest of Drawers

Stalker

Stalker is a chest of drawers designed to stand free in the centre of a room, so it can be approached from any side. The piece is made of beechwood, ash wood and plywood, with mirror, galvanized steel and tinned steel elements. Eleven non-identical drawers are placed unevenly on all four sides and are concealed behind a vertical dark texture, while tinned steel handles mark their positions. Throbbing Stillness Vessel

Throbbing Stillness

Throbbing Stillness is part of a series of vessels exploring abstract ideas, concepts and existential questions. The paradox of Throbbing Stillness is that instead of the expected functionality of a flower vase, it implies the existence of a space capable to contain further communication with the viewer. Through its organic form it manages to transcend the rigidity of the medium and it seems to be vibrating with vital energy. Its shape and color highlight concepts such as emptiness, potentiality, expansion.

Crowd Gathering of Dots Installation Art

Crowd Gathering of Dots

Crowd Gathering of Dots is an art installation created for the lobby of a hotel in Tainan, Taiwan. The work covers a surface of 100 square meters. Handmade ceramic spheres are arranged across the wall to suggest the flow and spatial tension of a gathering crowd. Each sphere is finished with a glossy black glaze that reflects the appearance of every visitor. Because the spheres are shaped by hand, each one differs slightly. Bronze and gold feet hold the spheres in place, and light projection creates changing three dimensional shadows.

Interpreting Discomfort Oil Paint

Interpreting Discomfort

Interpreting Discomfort is a series of oil paintings about personal space and social pressure. The works show hands and eyes in staged scenes that recreate everyday moments of unease. Caring actions can bring people closer, yet too much attention can also cause discomfort. The paintings combine two techniques. Indirect painting builds a black and white base that is then glazed with color. Direct painting applies mixed color straight onto the surface. The series is made with oil paint on canvas and wood panel, and it is shown in galleries as a starting point for conversation.
