List of Top Packaging Design Awards

List of Top Packaging Design Awards

If you got a good packaging design, you will want to consider these packaging design awards.

Packaging is important, indeed so important that several studies have shown that by merely changing the packaging of a product, you could improve your profits; first you will think that of course good packaging sells easier, and it is, but you could even increase profits by introducing a new packaging that is better transported (better protection, better stackability) and produced cheaper (ease of realization, less material costs) which is also more environment and user friendly. Great companies know the importance of packaging design and therefore race to hire the very best packaging designers from across the globe, and the design awards are one way which the companies can decide which package designers to hire.
Award winning packaging designers are able to tap into the success and leverage the fact that they have proven the quality of their design work by either charging more from their clients or simply by getting new and further clients; especially if these designers participate in high quality design awards; because good design awards do not just give an award of excellence for packaging design but they also actively promote the award winning packaging designers to ensure that the award winning packaging designers get the most out of their victory. Here, we have an extensive list of packaging design awards, however I want to start with the A’ Design Award, which I think is the best packaging design award out there.
List of Top Packaging Design Awards
A’ Design Award is organized under many categories, it is the most international and prestigious award out there. The A’ Packaging Design Award, the A’ Design Award for Good Packaging is the one that you will find most interesting. This competition is an annual juried design accolade that is open to participants from all countries, open to companies as well as designers. Participants are given the coveted A’ Design Prize which includes the yearbook, trophy, certificate, exhibition, gala night, plus public relation and business services to promote its laureates, indeed it is these PR services that make the competition most valuable among all others in this list. This is the award you should join if you plan to join a single award this year, however most packaging designers join multiple awards so I am listing you some more alternatives to join. (
The Pentawards are recognised as a prestigious worldwide competition exclusively devoted to packaging design in all its forms. They are open to all those who are associated with the creation or marketing of packaging from every country in the world. Their primary mission is to increase the stature of packaging design and those who create it. I would join this award as well as it is focused on packaging design mainly. (

The Dieline Awards are an international design competition recognizing the world's best consumer product packaging design. Now in its 7th year, The Dieline Awards has gathered a highly esteemed jury of structural packaging, design, branding, and consumer product experts. The Dieline Awards names its winners based on three vital design components: Creativity, Marketability, and Innovation. This is another award I would join as a packaging designer. (
D&AD celebrates and nurtures outstanding work in the design and advertising industry each year with its international creative awards. A D&AD Pencil is given to its winners, the trophy looks nice and the D&AD competition has a nice tradition, this is the second award I recommend. The award is focused mostly on graphics but you can definitely submit graphics design. (
Spark is first and foremost a community of designers and creative people, bound together by the idea that Design can make positive change in the world. It is a nice award program with some great work awarded. They have a category for branding design as well as communication where packaging entries could be submitted and recently, they also opened a new category for packaging design. (
European Design Awards. If you are an European designer, you might also consider the ED Awards. The main objectives of the ED-Project are: To celebrate European design with all its regional distinctive elements as well as its common grounds. To facilitate European designers to meet, benchmark, be inspired and build networks. To promote and raise standards for communication design throughout Europe. To properly honour and award people who invest their passion in design To create a directory of European communication design excellence, where design buyers from around the world will go to in search of collaborators. I like these awards because they are organized by a consortium of different design publications. (
HOW International Design Awards recognizes excellence on a global scale—and every year, hundreds of winners get international exposure in the award-winning HOW magazine. Canada, Mexico, Israel, Italy, Germany, Australia, Brazil, the U.K., the U.S. … No matter where in the world you reside, entries are judged by project type rather than industry or region. That means posters are up against posters, packaging against packaging, identity design against—you get the point. This is another award program I like because they are all about graphics and packaging (
Design and Design is an independent and non-profit on/off-line venture, developed by french-italian designer Marc Praquin to help talented designers to promote for free their work on an international basis. I really like their business model as it is free to join but later you need to pay for the book, there is nothing else provided except for a website mention, so I would not consider it as a promotion platform but it is especially great for young and upcoming designers as a chance to show the value of their designs. (
The FAB Awards is an international Awards program focused entirely on work done for Food And Beverage brands. It recognises the critical contribution that outstanding creative work makes to building brands, it identifies and rewards the leading practitioners from many countries, and it acknowledges their contribution to their Clients and their Agencies. I like this award program a lot because they focus a lot on packaging, and as you know about half of the packaging in the world is done for food packaging, so very very relevant. (
Mobius Awards is an international competition recognizing outstanding advertising, digital, design, and creativity from professionals and students. Headquartered in Los Angeles, the competition began in 1971 and annually attracts entrants from the United States and around the world. I like this American award program because of their established tradition and history, and they have a package design and redesign category which you will want to join as a packaging designer (
Creativity awards also has a long tradition and organized for many years. How do they keep the design award entry fees so low? No big party, no festival in the south of France and you’re not paying for all the trophies! I think it is a great program, even though you do not get the trophy, you would still consider especially if you are low on budget. I would join them as a packaging designer. (
In addition to awards specifically designed for packaging, there are overall good design award programs as well as branding and advertising award programs that relate highly to packaging design. Within these award programs, I identify the very best of them, with my favourites listed the first. I suggest these award programs as a further option for larger agencies and corporations as their fees could be slightly higher.
Reddot: Designers and manufacturers can enter their products for the Red Dot Award: Product Design– one of the largest product competitions in the world. For many years, it has offered a fair and independent design benchmark. The award’s strong, international jury evaluates every product submitted live, on site and only awards the Red Dot to those that stand out for their good design quality. I like them because their logo is recognizable and distinct, they are a good award programme. (
IF Design Award: Since 1953, iF has been active in the design community, issuing awards that are recognized and respected all over the world. The iF logo has become an internationally acknowledged symbol of outstanding design, and serves as a beacon for design-interested audiences in the global economies. I like this German design award program as they also do quite a good job at organizing international awards. (
Core 77: Open to all graphic design, branding and structural designs related to the packaging of products. Examples include: primary or secondary packaging for Fast Moving Consumer Goods or premium brands, promotional packaging and gifting programs, limited editions, etc. This is a good award program with a unique trophy too, I like them because they are young and dynamic award program improving each year. (
Cannes Lions: Lions brings together the start-ups with game-changing products and services, the investors who back them, the brands who work with them and the storytellers who can bring it all to life. If you cannot win the Oscars, this is the next good thing, they have a great party and true show off, I suggest it for large agencies for sure. (
LIA (formerly known as London International Advertising Awards) is a worldwide Award annually honouring legends, pioneers, and embodiments of excellence in Advertising, Digital, Production, Design, Music & Sound and Technology. The Awards began by honouring advertising in the realms of Cinema, Television, Print, and Radio internationally. LIA now honours 16 unique media types: Billboard, Branded Entertainment, Design, Digital, Integration, Music & Sound, Music Video, Non-Traditional, Package Design, Poster, Print, Production & Post-Production, Radio & Audio, The NEW, TV/Cinema/Online Film and Verbal Identity, so could send in your packaging designs for sure. I like them for their mission and good jury. ( ALSO Clios: The Clios is the esteemed international awards competition for the creative business. Founded in 1959 to celebrate high achievement in advertising, the Clios annually and throughout the year recognize the work, the agencies and the talent that push boundaries and establish new precedent. This is an award program for businesses in mind, but of course packaging designs are welcome too. (
List of Top Packaging Design Awards
To conclude, there are many packaging design awards out there, some good, others great, so my professional advice is to join the A’ Design Award if you do not want to risk it; You know what: you could right now register at and upload your design to get a free preliminary score so that you know your chances of winning in advance before paying for any nomination fees; remember all good awards are paid but at least at A’ Design Award you can learn your chances in advance. Furthermore, you can also choose to join via Digital Entry versus Professional Entry; basically they have two types of nomination possibility; in digital entry, you pay a fraction of the cost, and in pro entry you got to join the gala, physical exhibition and trophies. Visit now and register a profile, upload your design and boom, you get a preliminary score within a few days if your presentation is correct, and you could decide to go all in with a pro nomination or keep it cool with a digital entry, isn’t it great?
