Retro Design Award

Retro Design Award

Retro Design Awards is looking for submissions of retrotronics, retro-fashion and retro product designs that are still looking good.

Today, most of the design awards and competitions are interested in entries that represent concurrent styles and utilize modern technologies. Past developments and designs are not allowed to participate in design competitions, due to limits imposed by eligibility conditions of many awards.
Retro Design Award
However, mankind produces knowledge in a cumulative way, i.e. the past is what we built upon, and therefore it shall not be discarded. For this very reason, A-Prime Design Award and Competition has decided to open a new category called the Retro Design Award which is only open to entries that have been designed at least 10 years ago.
Retro Design Award
Please note that the competition is not open to submissions of dieselpunk, steampunk, decopunk, atompunk, teslapunk, cyberpunk, postcyberpunk, biopunk, stonepunk, clockpunk, mythpunk, atomic age or space age designs; i.e. all submissions to the retro-design award should be real products that were designed or produced at least 10 years ago.
Retro Design Award
Submission is not just open to industrial designs; graphic designs (especially posters), retro architecture, retro interior design and other projects are also accepted. Please note that, again for these projects, they should be realized or designed at least 10 years ago, while this limits the participation to an older audience, it also ensures that only real retro designs will be received.
Retro Design Award
The Retro Design Award is a new design competition category that was introduced on June 17, 2013, currently there are no winners and therefore images in this article are used for demonstrative purposes to indicate what type of designs that could be submitted to the retro design competition category.
Retro Design Award
Retro Design Award is open to submissions of any design that was made more than 10 years ago. This of course includes any fantastic machines, buildings, cities, and transportation systems. While current futuristic designs, steampunk projects are not accepted; futuristic designs from the past years are accepted.
Retro Design Award
The purpose of the Retro Design Award is to highlight the history of design; to see how design has changed over the years, and to shed light to design thinking over the ages. Retro designs are also expected to contribute to the MOOD museum archives to present more to the designers.
Retro Design Award
Retro graphic and communication designs, typography, book and magazine covers, and printed materials are more than welcome to participate in the retro design awards. For participation, you shall have rights (or request rights) to submit the design to the competition. Awarded entries will be re-printed and published as a part of the winners yearbook.
Retro Design Award
Retro design award is open for entries worldwide, submissions are accepted from all countries without any limits or restrictions. Cultural items, memoir type of designs are especially expected to take part in the competition. However for any type of project, it is important to prepare new photographs by cleaning the products or alternatively submit newly made renders if available.
Retro Design Award
For Retro Design Awards, some of the categories that is expected to be very successful is vehicle designs. RTA is especially open for vehicle designs made in the past, all major car producers are called to participate in the awards. For award participation, realization is not a must; i.e. designs that were not realized but proposed could also be submitted.
Retro Design Award
For RTA, retronic items could also be submitted, like all other entries, special attention should be given to presentations; it is best to clean the products beforehand if you would submit photos, alternatively new renders or visualizations could be prepared, but the original renders and visualizations could also be submitted.
Retro Design Award
In addition to product designs, systems and structures can also be submitted. For example, phone cards system which indeed become a collectible phenomenon could have been a great entry to the retro design awards. When submitting systems, their tangible components shall especially be demonstrated.
Retro Design Award
Especially designs and products that were made in the past which recalls childhood memories are welcome to take part in the competition. Given this perspective, you could submit toy designs, board games and other memorable items as long as you hold the rights to do so. If the original designer is no longer available, companies or their relatives could submit.
Retro Design Award
Modern but retro architecture projects can be submitted, projects that are designed in past but which are still looking good and attractive shall especially be submitted, and they will be given the evergreen design award due to their perpetual feeling of contemporaneity. Both large scale and smaller scale projects can be submitted.
Retro Design Award
Retro design award is open to submissions of domestic products that are produced in the early times. In addition to the products themselves, packaging of the product could also be send and could be considered an added value. In any case, the party who submits the designs should have the industrial design and publication rights; i.e. companies could not send products of others which had their patents expired.
Retro Design Award
Retro design award is open to futuristic submissions of the past, but not open to futuristic designs made today. Concurrent futuristic designs shall be submitted to the Futuristic Design Award category which tries to capture the image of tomorrow, today. While the limit is 10 years, you could submit designs older than 10 years, such as 15, 20, 25 and even 50 years old projects can be submitted.
Retro Design Award
When submitting a design to the retro category, for the best success the presentation should be made very good. To create a good presentation, you might want to work with professional photographers to re-take pictures of the designs, and you might also want to make maintenance before taking pictures; such as removing dust, cleaning or shining them.
Retro Design Award
While the retro design award is open to past designs, unfortunately it is not open to art works or sculpture that was made in the past times. In any case, the art works and sculptures, regardless of their age could be submitted to the arts crafts category which does not impose any time restrictions for the submitted entries.
Retro Design Award
When submitting to the retro design award, the most important thing to remember is that the work must be designed at least 10 years ago. Works that are designed today with a retro-feeling are not accepted to the retro design competition. Furthermore, designers should still have the rights to publish the works, and newer images or photography should be made.
Retro Design Award
To submit your designs, projects, and architecture you did at least 10 years ago, you could visit adesignaward website, register and upload the projects. Submissions are primarily open to categories of industrial design, graphics design, interior design and architecture however other designs could also be accepted as long as they were done at least 10 years ago.
